The Girlfriend experience
Steven Soderbergh reaffirms himself as one of the most talented and groundbreaking filmmakers of his generation, with The Girlfriend Experience
The experimental feature captures a moment in the life of Christine, a high profile Manhattan escort who faces the challenges of her boyfriend, her clients and her work.
Written by David Levien and Brian Koppelman, the film has a strong documentary style feel to it, probably due to the similarities between its lead actress and the character she portrays.
This is a return to Soderbergh's exhilarating indie background that left most cinephiles so inspired with movies like the uber stylish film noir, The Limey or the 1989 Palmes D'or winner Sex, Lies and Videotape.
The avant-garde structure of the film is precise, radical and uncompromising, the cinematography is simple yet clever and creative and the score is raw, judicious and appropriate.
One of the most capturing and seductive aspects of the film is its lead actress, Pornstar Sasha Grey, an 1960's film nut who quotes Jean-Luc Godard in everyday conversations.
Grey is the true revelation of The Girlfriend Experience, she gives a sincerely candid, poignant and unexpected astonishing performance. AND I LOVE HER.
